Alexander received his BA in Biological Sciences from Cornell University. He has previously worked on research projects examining toxin profiles of alpha-hemolytic streptococci, diversity of clinical factors associated with adult inclusion conjunctivitis, and staphylococcal capsular type among distinct ocular surface niches. He joined the University of Miami in 2022.

Doctor Maestre is a molecular biology expert and is instrumental in molecular studies on ocular microbiomes and individual microbes. He has more than 15 years working for Bascom Palmer Eye Institute introducing molecular diagnostic tools for infectious diseases that affect the vision, and molecular characterizations of ocular pathogens.
