Immunotherapy is a treatment for allergies or asthma in which you receive increasingly larger doses of an allergen (substance to which you are allergic) with the goal of reducing your reactions to that particular substance. This treatment is also known as allergy shots, hyposensitization, or immunologic desensitization, and can be delivered orally (by mouth) or injected.

Who is a Candidate?

If you suffer from allergies, chronic sinusitis as a result of allergies, or asthma, speak with your ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist to find out if immunotherapy is a treatment option for you.

What to Expect

You will receive increasingly larger doses of the allergen either orally or via injection. You will need to visit your ENT doctor’s office multiple times to undergo this treatment, and understand that results will be seen over time. Most people do find some relief of allergy and asthma symptoms as a result of undergoing immunotherapy.
