Support the heart of our health system
Every day, UHealth nurses extend their impact far beyond the bedside, leading in research, education, and clinical excellence to advance our mission. Their work transforms the patient experience, improves outcomes, and defines the future of nursing.
Donate TodayIn early 2025, the Clinical Excellence Committee (CEC) was established within our shared governance framework to oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing practice and standards across our inpatient and ambulatory settings.
The CEC is supported by multidisciplinary subcommittees that includes representatives from finance, risk management, occupational health, safety, compliance, pharmacy, and other key operational areas. This interdisciplinary collaboration ensures that decisions affecting nursing practice and care delivery are informed by diverse expertise, promoting safe, effective, and evidence-based patient care.
The committee plays a central role in evaluating, piloting, and implementing new medications, equipment, and clinical products. It also reviews and supports the adoption of new policies, procedures, and standards of care. In addition, the CEC prioritizes staff education and resource access to ensure nursing competency and readiness for practice changes. Through its work, the committee established measurable criteria to evaluate clinical quality, patient safety outcomes, and operational effectiveness, supporting continuous improvement across the health system.
Beginning in 2026, UHealth’s shared governance model will expand to further connect teams across South Florida through enhanced collaboration, utilizing both in-person and virtual engagement. This evolution strengthens nurse engagement, promotes shared decision-making, and reinforces nursing leadership’s commitment to professional autonomy and clinical excellence across the enterprise.
