Support the heart of our health system
Every day, UHealth nurses extend their impact far beyond the bedside, leading in research, education, and clinical excellence to advance our mission. Their work transforms the patient experience, improves outcomes, and defines the future of nursing.
Donate TodayUHealth—University of Miami Health System achieved a historic milestone as South Florida’s only academic-based health system and the first in Florida to earn the prestigious Magnet® with Distinction designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet with Distinction Recognition Program. This achievement places UHealth in the top 1% of U.S. hospitals holding this highest level of Magnet recognition.
Magnet with Distinction reflects years of dedication to building a professional practice environment where nurses are supported, empowered, and inspired to deliver exceptional care. The designation recognizes the compassion, expertise, innovation, and leadership demonstrated by UHealth nurses across every hospital, clinic, and specialty area.
During its first Magnet appraisal, UHealth was recognized as an exemplar in seven categories, an unprecedented achievement for a health system of its size and complexity. This distinction affirms the strength of our nursing culture and the collective commitment of nurses, faculty, physicians, and staff to advancing excellence in patient care.
“We’ve laid a strong foundation for a culture of nursing excellence by advancing research, fostering innovation, and consistently delivering exceptional patient care,” said Elizabeth L. Vieito-Smith, DNP, RN, chief nursing officer for UHealth. “This achievement reflects the dedication of our nearly 4,400 nursing staff members and the ongoing support of leadership, faculty, and staff across the UHealth system.”
This recognition represents more than an award. It reflects a transformation in how care is delivered across the organization. Nurses are empowered to lead, collaborate, and influence decisions that shape clinical practice and improve patient outcomes. Their voices remain central to our mission, strengthening a culture where excellence is both expected and achieved.
Looking ahead, nursing leadership remains focused on advancing innovation, expanding nursing scholarship, and strengthening leadership development opportunities to sustain excellence in professional practice and patient care. These efforts continue to create pathways for growth, ensuring nurses at every stage of their careers are equipped to lead the future of health care.
