Office of Population Sciences Mission Statement
The Office of Population Sciences (OPS) is dedicated to supporting, enhancing, and expanding high-quality, innovative, and collaborative transdisciplinary research aimed at reducing the cancer burden and improving the lives of the communities we serve. Our mission is to provide administrative and regulatory support to Sylvester investigators submitting and conducting interventional (non-treatment) and non-interventional studies. These studies include, but are not limited to, research across the cancer control continuum including prevention, screening, care delivery, and survivorship.
The OPS supports:
- Feasibility review and guidance on administrative and regulatory components of Population Sciences Research protocols.
- Submission to Site Disease Groups (SDGs), the Sylvester Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee (PRMC) and the UM Institutional Review Board (IRB).
- Ongoing regulatory activities and oversight.
Office of Population Sciences Research Operations Team
The primary role of the OPS Research Operations team is to guide investigators and their study teams to the resources needed to successfully submit and complete population sciences research. This includes navigating the unique requirements of cancer-related research at UM as well as processes specific to the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The team is committed to partnering with investigators from study conception through completion to advance the mission of reducing the cancer burden.
