Medulloblastoma is a highly aggressive type of brain cancer that is most common in children in the first decade of life.
It usually starts in the back part of the brain, a location called the cerebellum, and can cause problems like headaches, nausea, and trouble with balance.
In babies, it can cause irritability and sleepiness. It sometimes cause a baby to have a bigger head than standard. The cancer can also spread to other parts of the body, like the spine, which can cause pain and weakness.
The treatment plan will depend on the child's age, the size and location of the tumor, and whether the cancer has spread.
After surgery to remove the tumor, the care team may recommend additional treatments like chemotherapy or radiation therapy. Sometimes, chemotherapy can be used instead of radiation therapy in younger children to delay the need for radiation.
