Dr. Danny Reinberg is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Human Genetics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Danny is currently and has been an HHMI Investigator since 1994. His expertise is in biochemistry and molecular biology. In particular, his group devises experiments performed in vitro and in vivo to understand the molecular mechanisms that drive the epigenetic regulation of gene expression that gives rise to the special features of different cell types. His work has highlighted several diseased states that are a consequence of aberrancies in these mechanisms.

Francisco Carmona. I am originally from Mexico, where I obtained my PhD. I am part of the collaborative projects between the Laboratories of Danny Reinberg and Claude Desplan (New York University) in which we use ants as our experimental model. I am studying the molecular aspects that allow workers of this species to become queens, and in so change their behavior, metabolism and lifespan. 

I am originally from Turkey and obtained my PhD with Danny Reinberg at the NYU School of Medicine. I studied genome organization and boundary formation during development. I discovered novel insulators and other candidates that function with CTCF to attain insulation. I am pursuing their roles during differentiation.

I am from Taiwan. I obtained my PhD from the Rutgers University. I am studying the mechanism of non-canonical PRC1-mediated transcriptional repression. In particular, the FBRSL1-PRC1 coordinated with the co-repressor complex mediates the gene repression, which possibly plays an important role in the normal neurodevelopment.

I am originally from Mexico, where I obtained my PhD. Currently, my studies focus on the formation and maintenance of chromatin domains in development and cancer. I am interested in the mechanism of recruitment of the topoisomerase, TOP2B, and its role in genome organization. My work aims to apply the acquired knowledge to reduce tumor progression in human gliomas.

I am originally from Chile, where I obtained my MSc degree.  I am currently studying the human Numb protein, that is related to the Notch signaling pathway.  The Numb isoforms and their function have been only partially described to date. I am focused on revealing their contribution to the Epigenetic Landscape and cell fate decisions during human neurodevelopment.

I earned my Ph.D. in Biochemistry (2022) from University of Delhi South Campus, India, where my work was centered on the characterization of P. falciparum deubiquitinase, PfUCHL3 and identification of its inhibitors with implication in malaria therapy. I joined Prof. Reinberg’s lab as a postdoctoral scholar in September, 2022 and my research is currently focused on understanding the mechanistic interplay of NPM1 and PRC2 in epigenetic inheritance and importantly, how they drive the development of a leukemogenic state. 

I am originally from South Korea, where I obtained my PhD. I am studying the catalytic subunit of PRC2, which has two homologues in mammals: Ezh1 and Ezh2.  PRC2-Ezh1 and PRC2-Ezh2 are similar but also have differences in their activities.  I am following the expression of Ezh1 and Ezh2 in the mammalian brain and their possible roles in neurodevelopment.
