Biospecimen Shared Resource

The Sylvester Biospecimen Shared Resource (BSSR) provides accessible, cost-effective, state-of-the-art biorepository resources, services, and expertise in support of cancer-related basic, translational, and clinical research. The BSSR collects, processes, stores, and distributes high-quality, well-characterized, clinically annotated human biospecimens, including tissue, blood, and other biofluids. In addition, the BSSR offers comprehensive study support for non-interventional trials (NITs) that involve biospecimen collection.

BSSR services include:

  • Patient screening, consenting, and enrolling for biospecimen collection
  • Collection, processing, storage, and distribution of biological specimens
  • Rapid acquisition of surgical tissue and fresh biopsies
  • Plasma, buffy coat, serum, and PBMC isolation and cryopreservation
  • Clinical annotation and QA/QC of biospecimens
