Your Life Beyond Cancer
Cancer survivorship doesn’t begin only after treatment. It starts the day you’re diagnosed. Whether you’re in the middle of treatment or moving into the next phase of your recovery, survivorship support remains important throughout your journey. It’s normal to feel hopeful about your future while also wondering what comes next. That’s why the team at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of the University of Miami Health System, is here to help you feel supported at every step so you can not only survive, but truly thrive.
Sylvester is home to the Gynecological Cancers Survivorship Wellness Clinic focused on your needs from diagnosis throughout the continuum of your life.
This clinic serves survivors of the following types of gynecological cancers:
- Cervical
- Endometrial
- Fallopian tube
- Ovarian
- Primary peritoneal
- Uterine
- Vulvar and vaginal
Your Personalized Survivorship Care Plan
During and following your cancer treatment at Sylvester, our survivorship care team can help address your concerns from “Will my cancer come back?” to worries about your sexual function, fertility, body image, and returning to work and the activities you enjoy. After your initial in-person or telehealth visit at the Gynecological Cancer Survivorship Wellness Clinic, you should feel reassured, informed, and equipped with actionable tools for your day-to-day life.
You’ll receive in writing a personalized survivorship care plan designed to help you meet your health, wellness, and lifestyle goals. You will also be introduced to services, programs, and resources tailored to the needs of gynecological cancer survivors. Some services are offered in person, others virtually or via telehealth, and select services are available by referral only.
Your personalized survivorship care plan includes:
- Summary of your diagnosis and treatments
- Gynecological cancer-specific follow-up visits (supplementing, not replacing, your regular oncology medical care)
- Your site-specific surveillance schedule (including pelvic exams and imaging as needed)
- Clear red-flag symptoms
- Referrals (as needed) to specialists for nutrition, exercise, side-effect management, psychosocial support, breast health, and hormonal health
- Contact information
- Next steps
Services Tailored to Your Needs
While you can’t control much of your experience with cancer, you can take advantage of your survivorship journey by taking care of your body and mind to improve your quality of life and help lower your chances of recurrence.
We want to make it easier for you to access the services and follow-up care you need. Options like virtual visits and online Zoom classes can help you get support from the comfort of your home.
Oncofertility Care
Our oncofertility team provides individualized consultation and education on how your cancer treatment and survivorship plan may impact fertility. This program can help you explore fertility preservation options including preserving eggs, embryos, and other reproductive tissues.
Emotional, Social, and Psychological Support Services
Our survivorship experts can connect you with psych-oncology counseling to support emotional recovery. Services include support for anxiety, depression, “chemo brain,” scanxiety, body image concerns, and relationship challenges, along with coping strategies for sleep, stress, and pain.
Exercise Oncology and Physical Therapy
A personalized exercise program can address fatigue, pelvic floor dysfunction, muscle loss, and weight gain. Exercise is one of the most effective ways to combat post-treatment fatigue and improve overall health outcomes.
Nutritional Guidance
Personalized nutrition plans support recovery by promoting energy, reducing inflammation, supporting hormonal balance, and maintaining muscle and bone health.
Integrative Medicine Services
We offer acupuncture, massage therapy, yoga, and mind-body therapies such as art and music therapy to help reduce stress and improve quality of life.
Monitoring for Recurrence and Secondary Cancers
Your survivorship care plan includes surveillance recommendations such as pelvic exams, labs, and imaging based on your condition and current medical guidelines.
